PR: Sun 2 June - Zim Ngqawana tribute at Jazz In The Cradle

Zim Ngqawana

From time to time, this blog will carry PR releases about interesting or noteworthy music. Two years after the mighty Zim Ngqawana was taken from the South African musical landscape, this tribute by some of the country’s finest jazz interpreters is certainly such a case. PR release from Jazz In The Cradle / Garreth van Niekerk, and may have been edited for style.

This tribute to the legendary Zim Ngqawana is the second concert in the Jazz in the Cradle series.  The musical director of the program is Nduduzo Makhatini, who also plays piano, bringing together musicians who played with Zim and have established themselves as leading performers in their own right – Feya Faku (trumpet), Ayanda Sikade (drums), Herbie Tsaoeli (bass) and McCoy Mrubata (saxophone).

The concert will take place in the NIROX Amphitheater set in the extensive NIROX Sculpture Park.  Currently on display in the park is the exhibition AFTER THE RAINBOW NATION|2013, curated by Mary Jane Darroll assisted by Garreth van Niekerk.  The exhibition presents a view of South African sculpture following on the showcase exhibition of these and other sculptures in the city of the Hague, Holland in 2012.  The exhibition has drawn excellent attendance and received wide acclaim.
